Background:
- Marble is a porous natural stone that can be easily stained and scratched, especially when it is finished as gloss or polished
- Matte or honed marble is more resistant to scratches, which is an advantage.
Suggested Cleaning Equipment & Tools:
- Soft dustmop or feather duster, soft bristle brush or toothbrush, spoon, soft lint-free microfibre cloths, a spray bottle & rubber gloves.
- Cleaning agents include mild dish soap, marble sealant (when necessary), paper towel, marble polishing powder, baking soda, Lustro Italiano Etch Remover, Ammonia, Hydrogen Peroxide.
Routine Care:
- Clearing - ensure marble surface is free of clutter
- Dusting - Clean marble surface using suitable cloth, dustmop or feather duster
- Prep Cleaning Solution - Mix mild dish soap with warm water into a spray bottle
- Cleaning - Spray cleaning solution across marble surface & wipe off using a moderately hot wet cloth
- Drying - Remove excess liquid with absorbent clean towel or cloth and leave to air dry.
Incident Care (Ad-hoc stains):
- Apply mixture of baking soda & water onto affected area and leave it to rest overnight.
- Rinse away residue with cool water.
